Triple doubles are fucking worthless in today's NBA.

The only stats I put actually worth in are rebounds and turnover/assist ratio. And even rebounds are suspect because of all the 3s.

I wish there were solid stats for endgame play.

There are enough advanced stats now that can tell the real story of who is elite, etc.

TS% is the advance stat I always seek out. The NBA's beloved MVP was 156th in True Shooting Percentage and second in TOs per 36 minutes this past year. Inefficiency at its finest.

Just for comparison sake, Harden was 29th and Isaiah Thomas was 21 in TS%.

While a good metric, it doesn't really measure how much the offense depends on that person to get points, nor does it consider the ability of teammates on the floor to make shots or contribute.

That being said, Kawhi should have won MVP.

Russ has been in the mid-100s in TS% for years. Even when OKC made their only deep run in the playoffs. In my mind, a player's efficiency isn't something that generally changes. He would have poor shot selection and get caught in the air with no one to pass to regardless of who he has around him.

KD's run in the playoffs pretty much proved what I had been saying for years. I hated Russ at OKC because the league's most inefficient player was taking shots from one of the league's most effective players. Put KD on a team that's even moderately efficient and watch out. Put him on a team like the Dubs and he can become the best player on the planet.

To be fair, my other complaint with Russ has always been crunch-time and he was generally MUCH better in that regard this season.

I just couldn't get over how much Russ' teammates were sacrificing to get him those triple doubles. It was something.

Then again, the worst defensive player in the NBA was league MVP twice, so I guess nothing should surprise me.

Aha, he was a bad to terrible defender, but certainly not the worst in the league. It didn't help that his coach put absolutely no emphasis on defense.

The media has gotten much better at recognizing good defensive play, but it is still difficult to properly measure.

Nash not only lack the desire to play defense, he also didn't have the physical tools. Poor lateral movement and short arms.
