They just brought him back to .... I don't even know why they would bring him back. It was stupid.

This is kinda bollox.
He and his return is all over the canon material since back in TFA.
The aftermath trilogy, the new Thrawn books, the comics, dam now even one of the video games is roughly based
On operation cinder, his plan the empire had to carry out if anything happened to him.

We didnt get it in the film. Waaaaah
I can’t Fucking stand this crybaby demand to be spoon fed every little thing.
It demonstrates one thing clearly, people haven’t seen any of the Star Wars films where nothing at all is explained. EVer.
We get a handful of sentences from Yoda on what the force is. Nothin about how it works
But hey. That’s fine. Let’s just swallow that happily for 9 movies.
But that’s ok?
IF you have problems with how Palpatine came back, you haven’t watched and paid attention. He’s the master of the long game for his own ends.

If you need a 20 minute segment of they film showin loads of sith cultists doing dark side rituals to rehome his evil spirit in a new body you have to remember Star Wars is a family friendly story first. And owned by Disney second.

This film has problems. Palpatine isn’t one of them.
Dime, imagine if at the end of Harry Potter and deathly hallows part one is when Voldemort "killed" Harry, then at the beginning of part two, Harry is just alive with no explanation. "Well if you read the books you know how it happened". It's bullshit and it's cheap. You say star wars is Disney, this is so true and that means most people/families are only watching movies and not reading books or watching ancillary stuff.

From Oct 22:
Monkey_Driven wrote:My major concerns:

- Making all three trilogies tie together in one movie (wrapping up this trilogy alone is a tough ask).
- Palpatine as the big bad. It's going to take a bit of exposition to explain what he has been doing for 30+ years without relying on side stuff outside of the movies. This exposition will take time away from the characters introduced in the first two movies.
- Trying to tie up loose ends. Not everything needs to be answered.
- Rey's background being related to Skywalkers, Kenobis, Palptatine, etc. Just let her be a nobody the Skywalkers train for future generations.
- I have a feeling they will bungle Kylo's redemption/downfall.
- What are the minor characters going to be doing in this story? Will they have enough screen time to care about their journey? Will they get to do grounded, cool stuff?
- As noted by VG, I have concerns about an End Game all out brawl being directed in a competent way. Has the potential to more fans service than story service.

I still plan to see this movie with an open mind and enjoy the spectacle.
Well, good thing there was NO exposition explaining it, huh?

Agree, how will they explain that Palps knew Vader was going to toss him into the Death Star? Unless Palps figured out how to be a force ghost, which I could stomach - a dark side force ghost seems fair and not unreasonable.

The other far fetched theory is Palps coming back from the dead in human form, learning from his master as explained in Revenge of the Sith.

It won't be naked nostalgia. I'm confident it'll be thematically satisfying and necessary. It won't be "nostalgia" as much as connective tissue.

The more I think about this, the more convinced I am that Abrams really had no idea what to do. The whole thing is nothing but nostalgic fan service tucked into a ROTJ remake designed to disguise the fact that story wise, there's absolutely nothing there.

Jj and Kennedy both have said he was always the endpoint but just had to figure out how.
This film explains the how.

This got me thinking and wondering if Palpatine was the plan all along when firing up this new trilogy. I highly doubt they just decided to bring palpatine back for the final film for fan service. Im assuming it was the plan all along. Then, i ask, why haven't the prior two movies at least alluded to "something darker going on in the galaxy". There have been zero hints at something like this. I think it would have made it far more interesting . Instead, we were just led to believe that snoke was the bad guy, and Kylo was the new dark side enforcer. Because of that, as of now - prior to seeing the film, the idea of palpatine all of a sudden coming back feels.....cheap.

Snoke was certainly one of the worst things about the movies. His death was poor.

Is it just me or is there significant overlap among the people who think Palpatine was telegraphed in TFA and TLJ and the people who think Boba Fett was NOT telegraphed in Mandalorian, Season 1?

I don't need an explanation. I'm just saying you can't give a plausible reason for his return that makes one lick of sense.

Palpatine returning is the dumbest thing from the whole sequel trilogy.

I'm from the old school of loving the OT, the epitome of non-explaining nor hand-feeding the audience.

It's the PT, ST, Star Wars Story movies that dump more exposition than normal.

Good movies. But I mean, which Star Wars movie or series do you prefer that is not part of the OT?

Oh, I'm sorry. I totally read that wrong. I thought you said Non- SW movie. My bad

My favorite non-OT sw movie? How about "most tolerable?"

honestly I wouldn't be upset if I never watched a PT, ST or SW story movie again.
