Rodriguez was fantastic, but the decision to send him back out for the 8th was retarded. Farrell just got lucky it didn't backfire.
What do you think about firing Farrell?numbers wrote:Rodriguez was fantastic, but the decision to send him back out for the 8th was retarded. Farrell just got lucky it didn't backfire.
It's only two months into the season (and the division looks pretty awful) so things will probably change a lot, but this past offseason sure looks like a disaster right now.MattA75 wrote:I don't necessarily know if firing Farrell actually accomplishes anything...I mean the guy is a boob, but this team is put together so badly that I honestly don't know if it matters
Starting with the Pedroia extension in 2013, this team has been run so abysmally by the front office it's almost not even funny.
I just don't buy that these "five #1s" of ours are ever going to pitch better than "five #4s" with any consistencyphilpritchard wrote:It's only two months into the season (and the division looks pretty awful) so things will probably change a lot, but this past offseason sure looks like a disaster right now.MattA75 wrote:I don't necessarily know if firing Farrell actually accomplishes anything...I mean the guy is a boob, but this team is put together so badly that I honestly don't know if it matters

I feel the same way, not to say he's the No. 1 problem - there needs to be some accountability from the front office and ownership, too. The thought of another summer with meaningless baseball sucks.numbers wrote:I mean I wouldn't be opposed to it, but I don't think it's going to happen this year.

Awful decision especially with Hamilton on the bench. I was confused the outfielders were so shallow.numbers wrote:Also, it's infuriating how our local "media" refuses to acknowledge Farrell's deficiencies as an in-game manager. Yesterday they all rushed to Twitter to defend his decision to put the winning run on base in the 9th inning.
Banny was very admit about giving Hamilton a day off. For what reason IDK. Also with Beltre getting injured I don't think Ham was being planned to be used until we got something cooking in the 9th. Agreed though I think Farrell really out thought himself a few times that series.numbers wrote:It was like he didn't know Hamilton(who was killing them all series) was on the bench.
Right.numbers wrote:What I don't get is why Farrell doesn't have a Gene Lamont-style bench coach. He clearly needs an old hand that understands strategy at his side. Instead he has a bench coach that is a younger coach that's never managed in the majors.
I could have reworded that to sound less annoying. Here goes: We're big fans of baseball. It's a form of nightly, live entertainment that loses a bit of its value when the home team seems to be adrift and aloof.philpritchard wrote:Sometimes, I hate Red Sox fans.Coach wrote:The thought of another summer with meaningless baseball sucks.
Hanley fit a need in so much as he was a right handed power bat who could hit cleanup (or third), but we really didn't have a place on the field for him...but there was no need to pay Sandoval what we did, especially when we could've probably traded for Donaldson or found a one year stopgap and not suffered much if any decline from what we've gotten out of that position since Lowell's better yearselliseamos wrote:I'm just confused at this point.
3 years ago, year one AB (After Bobby), it was "character and chemistry" as the formula. The world series gave the organization's approach legitimacy.
Last year, it was supposed to be more of the same formula, but it failed miserably as a hand full of guys were asked to produce too soon.
Then came this offseason, where it seemed like they completely abandoned their talking points from the prior two years and went after the names rather than the needs, almost as if they over thought what they're trying to do.
I feel like I'm left watching a team that would fit better in the mid to late 90s, than anything we've seen over the last 10 years (which somehow produced 3 world series, mind you)
The thing that surprises me the most about the Donaldson trade is that the A's didn't get a king's ransom for him. It's shocking that other teams either weren't willing (which seems extremely unlikely) or didn't get a chance (which would have been dumb of Beane, but seems more likely, I guess). With the prospects the Red Sox had, they should have been able to blow the Jays offer out of the water while still maintaining an outstanding farm system.MattA75 wrote:especially when we could've probably traded for Donaldson
