I can't find any tables on the standard outlet sites that aren't a complete rip off.
Make something!
I think now that I am a home owner I should be at least partially concerned with aesthetics.
I'm not saying chuck together a few cardboard boxes or anything. Everything you need should be at the hardware store - plus then you don't have some bulk manufactured thing.

I know the MP3s are out there, but I'm going to wait until the LP arrives.

Nice gear deserves a nice shelf or wall unit. If you're going to stay in your house for a while I would recommend custom.

However like Pete said, the Ikea Expedit is a vinyl-collectors ideal solution. It's affordable, pretty decent looking and perfectly stores records while providing tons of surface for the amplifier and deck. I have one in my basement with most of collection stored there. In the main living room I made built-in cabinets myself on both sides of my fireplace mantle to house my gear and also to hide the speakers, cables and the PC behind the screened doors. I did this for WAF only, because truly the speakers should be out in front.

Here's what I had when my girlfriend and I moved into our house 2.5 years ago with my Marantz amp:

Here's what I have now with Mcintosh pre/amp and built-ins:

I actually took this pic yesterday of my Rega TT for posterity... system upgrades are on the way!

Got My Morning Jacket's "The Tennessee Fire" from Discogs today for $9.99--usually goes for $25 or more!

From this past summer. The shelf is a bit more fleshed out nowadays.

My son dancing around the living room to records makes them skip without fail.

Make a spring board platform for your record player.

Weighed my options when it came to a new turntable for a while...decided that I didn't have the patience to watch Craigslist/eBay for a Technics, so I ordered an AudioTechnica (along with a Shure cartridge). It may only be a mid-level table, but it's worlds ahead of what I have now. It's on the UPS truck, and I'm waiting for it to arrive right now!

That is sexy!

How much of a difference does a better cartridge make?

Well, it's a new table and a new cart! I didn't spin anything with the table's default cart, but I'll tell ya, the first thing I noticed was how quiet the quiet sections of the record were (I listened to an Iron and Wine record first, as I had just spun it on my old table last week). I may still have some tweaking to do, but setup was pretty simple, and things are going great so far!

No, as I explained a few posts above, it's an AudioTechnica with a Shure cartridge.
