Yeah, I was totally making a dick joke. I wasn't implying that I actually think Cersei is going to bang the mountain, or any other legitimate spoiler (I haven't read the books). In fact, I'm hoping Oberyn smites that dude with almighty vengeance.

But this IS Game of Thrones, so Oberyn's probably going to go down in about 2 seconds.

that would be pretty hilarious if they built up this fight for like 3/4s the episode, then Oberyn walks out and gets slashed in the first 3 seconds

as oberyn's cockiness/confidence became more uncomfortable to watch, it started to become clear that he wasn't going to emerge unscathed, but god damn... that has to be one of the most gruesome things i've seen on tv.

the mountain didn't die apparently, but he can't be normal after this, right?

As the episode began to quickly approach its end, I was worried that that fight wouldn't live up to its billing. Although I remember it being more drawn out in the book, it certainly was just as impactful.

Ugh, there comes a point where it's just not fun anymore. Ned's death was a great opening salvo as an indicator that this world was different. The Red Wedding was a potent reminder of that. Now, it's become exploitative.

I assume Tyrion somehow escapes (though that's apparently a silly assumption), but which characters are we supposed to getting behind here, now? Jon Snow? He's ineffectual and useless. The Stark children? At least Sansa has finally stopped being such a wet blanket and stepped up to play the game. Arya is a one-trick "I stab this guy, badass girl power" pony. Bran (?) is played by an unlikeable actor and off mounting forest creatures or something. And Rickon (?) has just disappeared.

I haven't read the books, but the whole "I was writing a trilogy, oh wait now it's 5 books, oh wait, now this book is too long, I'll split it in two, etc, etc" thing has ensured that I'm put off by GRRM the writer. And now it just seems like he's got some idea that it makes him edgy and novel to constantly do stuff like this.

I guess the White Walker invasion could unite and redeem a bunch of people, but that seems a long way off.

If you have read the books, what I came to is the starks are just not made for this world. The world created for the books and the TV show IMO is not meant for people with a moral code. It is for people who walk on both sides of the line. Rob like Ned was blind to this and only saw things in black and white, not grey, and they died for there stupidity.

These aren't stories about the Starks, it stretches far beyond them. I would rather watch the Boltons over the Starks anytime

As I said, I haven't read the books, and the show has built its "relatable leads" as Tyrion, Sansa, Arya and Dany (though she's fast heading off into the world of crazy). I can't keep track of everybody, but at the moment all I really remember about the Boltons is crazy Snow/Bolton and uncle-guy who makes him a Bolton (and betrayed Robb? Am I remembering that right?). Not really compelling me at the moment.

I don't deny that it can be fascinating to watch characters that straddle the gray and lean towards the traditional "evil" (Tywin has been my VIP this season), but you needs a few hopeful rocks in a sea of douchebags.

Without a doubt, a few hopeful rocks will pop up, but then again I think season 5 and 6 will be drastically different from the books.

I haven't been that uncomfortable with a scene since the curbing on American History X.
