What year are you using for J.R. Richard?

I had to drop Richard and Oswalt to make the rotation work correctly. I replaced them with valverde and Fred gladding.

It was pretty awesome when I realized it would be quicker to enter the data by stat rather than player.

I was pretty surprised when Richard was one of the guys you dropped. I was kinda shocked he wasn't in your rotation to start with.

I enter by player. But I have it organized so it goes in the same order as whatif for stats AB - LOB. So I can just read the numbers across and enter them quickly.

I just go down the line for each stat, like yours mine is arranged in the same order they are using so it's pretty easy except for pitchers and pinch hitters.

Jeff Bagwell is killing it.

I enter all the bottom of the box score stats first for everyone, then just go down the lineup for the basic stats, then add up the total bases.

I pick my brother in law's brain about 70's and 80's baseball all the time. He grew up in St Louis and saw the Stros play a lot in that time frame. Saw Richard pitch in 1979 and thinks he has one of the best arms ever. Sad story that guy as he was just starting to blossom into a great one.

If you click advanced stats it'll give you total bases already added up.

If you go by the numbers he was the 7th best starter I had. I was pretty shocked when I saw that guys like dierker and Niekro had had better years than him.

I feel proud that I devoted the time today to go full nerd with this.

I remember reading one of those "Alternate History" articles in SI back in the 90s when I was very young and impressionable, and one of them was about if Richard had played a full career. I guess I've always held him in high regard since then.

The Astros may have won the World Series in 1980 if Richard wouldn't of had his stroke. They lost to the Phils in the NLCS that year.

Yeah. He was having probably his best season ever. His numbers were off the charts.

Yeah. I wouldn't try it. Maybe if you had an earlier version of him, but you have 1997 Biggio, right?

Yea it's def not when he was catching it's one of the late 90s years.

Larry Dierker had an 8.6 WAR in 1969 going 20-13 with a 2.33 era, and Niekro's 1980 was better than any year Richard had, that's what beat him out.
