This is bonkers but fantastic mad genius out of the box thinking from the always brilliant Fintan O Toole. TLDR Sinn Fein stand down from their seats in NI, forcing an election, enter a pact with other NI parties who take their seven seats in Parliament, thus tipping the balance to stop brexit.
The Brexiteers would lose their fucking minds. It would ultimately by Sinn Fein saving Britain from itself.

And it would work. But SF are happy to sit on their hands right now cos their ultimate goal is in sight.

If they did this, it would be a complete game changer. Sinn Féin (Sinn Fein IRA as they’re known in the uk) would be saving Britain from themselves. Britain is reeling now but that would be a a knock out blow that they’d never recover from.
The worst of it being ‘IRA interfered in our democracy’. All beit indirectly.

But if we’ve learned anything in brexit it’s to expect the unexpected.

It would make them heroes to a great many. Their star would rise here in Ireland too for being selfless. That actually might really help their ultimate aim more here if they did it.

Mary Lou is already talking of changing the flag, and the anthem and joining the commonwealth.

So they’re open to ideas it seems.

Well they’re the second largest party up there and the third largest here.
There’s a huge amount of people here will never vote for them even after the debacles and continuing series of fuck ups by our two main parties, but if they did something radical like Fintan suggests, that could change.

Saiid Javid on the radio just now, commenting upon the fact that the UK has just experienced a quarter of negative growth- “What is driving this is uncertainty, and the best way to give certainty is to leave on October the 31st.”


Javid is chancellor of the exchequer.
Read that again and let it sink in.
They are headed for recession and his cure for that is to ensure they leave the EU and have no trade deals and are ripping up the one huge one they have that gives them access to the entire global market.

The hell? Is a PM suspending Parliament really a thing over there? That seems like a crazy step to take. Pretty sure that’s how the Star Wars started.

ComRes opinion poll showed 54% of respondents said they agreed with the statement: "Boris (Johnson) needs to deliver Brexit by any means, including suspending parliament if necessary, in order to prevent MPs (Members of Parliament) from stopping it."

The poll showed 46% disagreed with the statement. The result was based on the answers of 1,645 respondents, after those who said they did not know their preference had been excluded.

The same survey found support for the Conservative Party had risen by 6 percentage points to 31%, compared with 27% who said they would back the opposition Labour Party. That result was based on 1,783 responses.

That finding is largely in line with other polls showing an increase in support for the Conservatives since Johnson took over from Theresa May, who formally quit last month

It happens as a function at the end of every term of Parliament.

But it hasn’t been triggered by a PM since the 16 or 1700s and the PM in question had his head cut off for doing it as far as I recall.

He won’t get to do this by most accounts, it’s war game talk, but both sides are working on big moves like this, the other side are planning moves to stop him.
It also means the Queen has to get involved, which she is loathe to do but also either side forcing her to get involved are facing huge criticism.

70 MPs lodged a legal move to block him doing it, which the court won’t hear until after the 31st of October. The farce and comedy continues.

As for the Telegraph’s open partisanship, in this case I’m hesitant to say it’s relevant to the numbers stated....the uptick in Conservative support post-Johnson is very consistent with recent polling by yougov and the Sunday Times, which seems to suggest it’s not inaccurate.

I can’t find the link but they only poll within Tory party members, not general public.
So it’s going to be skewed. The methodology is being taken apart today in various outlets

Just for context John Bolton the national security advisor has bizarrely been telling the leavers that the UK is too of the queue for a US trade deal post brexit. Bolton it emerged was also In the UK with the leave campaign the night of the referendum result. This is raising eyebrows. But to speak out of his station is weirder still.

Apparently Pelosi doesn’t make statements like this unless she definitely has the votes to back it up. Can anyone confirm?
