I’m in. The. After that, I have had a real interest in The Band. They may follow.
If you do then there's a podcast called The Band A History that is a good side by side listen. I also did the Clash discography with the Spotify podcast series.

If you're looking for bands with interesting and substantial catalogues, let me selfishly suggest two of my favourites: The Cure and King Crimson.
Beasties is a good suggestion though.

Update: Fear Inoculum is still fantastic and I listen to it regularly. Every listen only makes me like it more.

Fear Inoculum
Lateralus
Undertow

I gave this three listens and I was unfortunately pretty disappointed by this. First Tool album where I don't know that there is any song I want to go back and revisit. The lyrics generally did nothing and this felt like Tool following all their worst instincts - or at least leaning really heavily into the side of the band I like the least. But in fairness this was really not an album designed for me.

Fear Inoculum is parts great and parts pure boredom. The songs start great and often end with uninspired instrumental parts that feel like they intended to have Maynard sing over them. The part from 9:30 onward in Invincible is the best example for this. Boring metal riffing dragged out for 1:30 minutes. What's the purpose?
I really want to love this record because there's great stuff in there. Unfortunately parts of this feel like a chore to listen to.

almost all of the songs would be greatly improved by cutting them in half. you would lose nothing

hot take: 7empest is one of the worst songs on the album (not counting the interludes and Chocolate Chip Trip)
not so hot take: Descending is the best song

Boy do I disagree. I think it’s their most efficient album (the version without the worthless segues, that is). Every moment is great, I don’t think it’s ever boring or uninteresting. The songs are long but NEVER feel like it to me; they’re structured and paced in a way where they all feel half their length. Every time I listen all the way through (and I do often), they make 80 minutes feel like 40.

Totes. It's far from boring.

Every listening experience feels like a breath of fresh air, like most of Lateralus.
I also enjoy the warrior metaphor through the whole album. Reminds me of some 70s rock music, if that makes sense... I kinda link the album vibe to the No Quarter cover from Salival.

This album is still pretty much in continuous repeat for me, they really hit it out of the park with this album. For weeks I'd been listening to this pretty much only either in the car or with my 'running' Bluetooth headphones. The other day couldn't find my headphones so grabbed my corded pair from the PC, and fuck me - listening to this on decent headphones really lifts it to a whole new level.

I agree with this. I don't listen to this album as a whole anymore, but I still play invincible and descending frequently.

Personally I find myself going back to Invincible the most, but there's not a track on here that I don't like. 7empest is brutal!

Anyone seen Tool this year or have tickets yet?
Tacoma goes on sale this morning but I can’t see pricing yet. What are the $$ tiers looking like?
I can’t decide whether jump immediately to Best Available, or if that’s like $300 each then I may sort by price instead. Only gonna have one chance I’m thinking.

I would recommend not buying a ticket for a concert until we know how severe this pandemic turns out to be.
