Seriously? It was Cameron Crowe's first book; he went undercover as a teenager to write it. My understanding is that it's completely non-fiction, while the film was a fictitious version. Bonus trivia: It was Amy Heckerling's (Johnny Dangerously, Look Who's Talking 1&2, Clueless) first feature-length.
