The move away from O'Brien alone is enough to pique my interest again; if he was on the boards again I'm honestly not sure I'd have even cared. I can envision "dark, moody synths" going either way, but until I hear it I'm open to it being great.

what are good examples of songs (PJ or otherwise) w/ a lot of synths?

Beach House would be a good place to start, maybe Future Islands.

That can still work (Collapse into now was a perfectly fun final album for REM, and most of those songs had clear antecedents), but something new is more likely to stand on its own as an independent thing, and maybe recontextualize what we've had for so long. So I'm hoping for something relatively different.

This will be interesting as this seems to be reasonably akin to a self-produced album, so we'll get a sense of what, circa 2019, Pearl Jam thinks Pearl Jam is, as opposed to what BoB thinks Pearl Jam is
