Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I didn't care for The Nice Guys. It's funny, but also shockingly sloppy and ultimately forgettable (I saw it last night and keep forgetting I watched it). Character motivations/characterizations seem to change with every other scene. Themes come and go constantly. It's riddled with awkward editing and flat direction, and (as usual for Shane Black) there are some subtly nasty undercurrents.

Ryan Gosling was fantastic though. He needs to do more comedy. Like, Laurel & Hardy-style comedy.

I missed the days where Sam Jackson was playing regular people...A small thief with a heart. And really funny!!!

He was great in those indie side-man characters, like in Jungle Fever or Fresh. Seems like he's more interested in chewing up the scenery and cashing big paychecks these days.

There are hardly any movies like The Long Kiss Goodnight anymore. I mean, its not even a good movie, but you can feel is something else there.

I know exactly what you mean by this. Something has been lost in modern genre movies. They don't have the same cinematic feeling they used to.

Also, The Long Kiss Goodnight is a goddamn great movie.

Digging for Fire is wonderful, just a beautiful movie. Joe Swanberg is really something special. Happy Christmas and this one are just tops, and Drinking Buddies was good too. I've only seen one of his pre-Drinking-Buddies movies. I've got to dig into his catalogue more.
