For those waiting with bated breath, here is my (updated) journey with this song.

1. New Pearl Jam!!
2. Hmmm, I really like that opening and first verse he sounds kinda like Cornell.
3. Not sure about that chorus though.
4. (air coming out of balloon sound)
5. They took 5 years to do this?!?
6. (weeks go by)
7. Driving in car today, listening to 93.1 WXRT and "Can't Deny Me" comes over my Bose speakers (yep, I said Bose). I turn it the fuck up and somehow it... it... sounds great?

I've had a very similar relationship with this song.

Remember in the early days when Vitalogy and No Code came out and there were a couple songs that were way easy to get into and several that took some patience? We may be experiencing that again... And I'd consider that a good thing.

It's a grower, for sure. As you say, in the past that was pretty par for the course for many PJ tracks. For me, many tracks on Vitalogy and No Code took years for me to really appreciate. Same for a few on Binaural.

But with Backspacer and Lightning Bolt, many songs have (to my ears) actually become less appealing over time.

So CDM definitely bucks the recent trend, for me.
