This is better than anything on Backspacer

And I think it has its own sound

The production and tones of this recording are infinitely better than Backspacer or LB

I do agree that the production on Matt's snare drum has some life in it.

I think the poll needs new descriptors.

I believe the descriptions for 3, 4, and 5 stars all accurately describe my current opinions.

So, 4 stars then, I guess? This ain't no 5 star tune. DotC may be, though.

I think this is accurate. I'm listening to Backspacer now. I'm enjoying the way these two tracks feel much more than on the last two albums.

Only Force of Nature and maybe GSMF are in the discussion as being "better". Oh, and Betterman (Live).

For all my lack of connection with the song, I agree with this.

The production here is several country miles ahead of the last two records.

Exactly, thats what I like about this two songs, is no longer Backspacer Part III. Gigaton is doing its own thing. Pursuing differents dynamics.

Gigaton is going to be really good.

Definitely?

You sure?
100%. Force of nature is a top 25 song for me, in particular
I agree Force of Nature is the top selection from Backspacer. But I'd peg it around 70-80 on my list of best PJ tunes.

SBWM- maybe top 50 if it continues to grow on me

Yep. Definitely it’s own thing. And it’s refreshing and exciting again.

This one is a bit of a mixed bag for me.

On the initial listen, I hated it, now 4-5 listens in, it's grown on me...but it does feel very disjointed. It feels like 2 or three different song ideas managed to just blend into one song, that while fun, doesn't seem to go anywhere. If there was an "...even more Lost Dogs" it sounds like it would fit better on that, or on some charity compilation back when that was a thing. It seems like a very odd choice for a single, which somehow only leaves me anticipating Gigaton even more.

On the positive side, as many have said, I'm really enjoying the production, and the fact that the band appear to be having fun. This song is loose (too loose for me) but loose, you can feel the air in the room, and the instruments being allowed to breathe a little...not nearly as sterile as the past two albums have been...Looking forward to the rest of the album.

that would've been great at the beginning and near the end

I just needed... feedback underneath, like on WWS; or could something else

I'm still hoping that one day this won't be the case.

But, alas, it remains the case.

Maybe I will appreciate the "light on the meat" approach more when I'm 50

Yeah, this is weird, but it does.

I think I like what the drummer is doing here better.
