All art requires participation so I'm not sure what your getting at?
I'm talking about art made with the intent of inviting participation vs the kind that is "look at what I was thinking and feeling at the time".
Are you saying that one is better than the other? Or are you disagreeing with people who enjoy one form more than the other?
I'm saying I don't think people are always, or even often, cognizant that there's a difference. They'll diminish one when thinking it's the other. They'll diminish something that's inviting when what they are looking for is something more solitary or personal.

Can't people simply find one more engaging than the other though. I don't think ppeople generally put that much thought into it, there's simply types of music you like and types you don't. You can't tell people its still a valid form of art or whatever but it doesn't make a difference, they're still not gonna like it. Maybe I'm missing you're point, I am one of those aforementioned don't put much thought into it people.

And I'm one of the people who think the music should be created first and the audience participation will come organically if people connect with it. They didn't write black or alive with audience participation in mind but over the years they've progressed into songs the audience wants to be a part of.
The whole point seems moot anyway because you can do both at the same time. You can have an amazing crowd participation moment while have it come from a feeling of inspiration (which doesn't have to be solitary or personal in itself). I don't think anyone would argue that GTF kills in concert when everyone is singing along, and there's no doubt it's a truly inspired song.

So, I don't really know why he's bothering to make the differentiation. If it's the choice between a song that has crowd interaction that comes from a place of inspiration, versus a song that has crowd interaction that is devoid of inspiration, then yeah, I'd choose the former.

Maybe there's some early excitement but I wouldn't call Let it Ride "great".
Personally I'd take the first 7 songs on S/T over Let it Ride. CC on the other hand is pretty special... it would've made a fantastic closing track on avocado.

We've only heard a few bars of the PJ version of "The Forest". I'm curious to hear the whole thing.

I think these two songs are miles better than any S/T songs and its nothing to do with early excitement, I actually wish I didn't own these.

Yeah, I really don't know what it is, but if you see the proprieties of the songs, they say that they are #3 and #6 of a 11 tracks.
