Hate is a strong word for this kind of song; something so benign is undeserving of hate, really, just disappointment that its many glimpses of potential are squandered rather than fulfilled. If it was just one or two degrees stranger it would have been a really solid tune. I agree that it's a steal this late in the game.

Doc, will you do a list of unpicked songs from Tourney 2? It'll be interesting to compare against the first tourney. page 80 of last tourney thread btw.

monkey_driven is past 8 hours. He can make his final selection when he returns.

okay, as much as I want to take The Fixer and as great as it sounds after RVM, this is an all star team and there is only one song that can close it out

Because gold's just not good enough

and I don't think about the bronze...

Wow, I'm shocked you passed up The Fixer... But you're reasoning is pretty flawless

On a side note, it's my wive's favorite song from Backspacer. She lit up like a midwestern, suburban block the week before Christmas when they played it last time we saw them live together. So this one's for her...

Amongst the Waves
That's a great 10th round pick, and its a good song, not one of my favorites but still a good one
:luv:

I feel like it's a steal this late in the 10th. Even if it's not loved on this board, it's a solid song and I'm proud to have it on my team.
I considered this one, along with one that is still available so I won't name it, and Out Of My Mind.

I'm not a huge fan of ATW, only b/c I feel it's trying too hard to be a GTF type of song, and it's just falls kinda flat. Having said that, I do not hate it, I'm just more disappointed in it.

I've been appreciating it more and more lately.

I was trying out a few Backspacer songs on my mix, and I have to say that they sound better (or even better) in a slightly different context. For instance, after a run of save you, corduroy, and RVM amongst the ways sounds much larger. The fixer as well. What may have hurt some of the bigger anthems is that there isn't anything on the record that they are responding to. You need to sort of plug in the back catalog. So the salvation story in Amongst the Waves sounds more believable following the intensity of RVM. It primes you for it more effectively than say, just breathe

I was fully prepared to take either The Fixer or Amongst the Waves to close out my team. But then this idea popped into my head and I couldn't dislodge it. All three songs sound great in my 10 slot, albeit this one for a different reason

That makes sense. I'll have to try that combo of RVM > ATW. I thought ATW may have worked after LBC, or maybe even MFC.

i definitely like all of the backspacer songs when they are mixed with stuff from through out the catalog, when ever i have my ipod shuffling through PJ and a backspacer songs comes on i always enjoy it, but the album straight through is less enjoyable

i have a very heavy mix. A lot of loud and aggressive songs. Even my slower songs sound big. And so at the end of that run of songs things like Amongst the Waves, the Fixer, and Just Breathe (all of which I was looking at) sounded huge following those songs.

And the cracking fixer beginning sounded great coming right out of the end of RVM. I am gonna feel terrible about not taking it.
