Re: Song of the Moment: Getaway
I dunno, I still think if you start the album at Light Years its much better. Maybe you can throw in God's Dice later if you had to keep one of them. Light Years is also a better opener for what the album actually is. I used to think I didnt like the album until I realized what I didnt like was influenced by the vibe of the first few songs

I cant think of a worst opener than LY.
Breakerfall is glorious. It also sets the tone and sound of the album pretty well.

Re: Song of the Moment: Getaway
I don't like Light Years much either.
I realise this is entirely supposition on my part by Breakerfall has always felt very workman-like to me, as though they didn't have an obvious opening song and so Ed quickly came up with a fairly run of the mill Who-esque rocker to fill that spot. It just doesn't feel as though there's an interesting musical idea at the heart of it. It's just energy and sound, designed to serve a purpose.

Re: Song of the Moment: Getaway
The best songs on Binaural are the atmospheric ones. The two actual good rockers on the album (Insignificance and Grievance) also get much better without the first three songs making the whole album seem like it’s drony rock songs that all sound the same. The balance is wrong.VinylGuy wrote:I cant think of a worst opener than LY.

hell of a vehicle for a wonderful vocal delivery. It is the band playing out of their minds that I love.Birds in Hell wrote:I don't like Light Years much either.

Also, the descending bass line over eds ascending chord progression through the outro?
I just love this song. The version on the Alone and Far Away Comp is about as good as it gets for me.

Binaural rotates in and out of the top spot of favorite albums for me. But I've never liked Light Years.

Re: Song of the Moment: Getaway
The song is too long. It would work a lot better if it was 4 minutes long. Love the sentiment, but it just kind of drags on.bodysnatcher wrote:Binaural rotates in and out of the top spot of favorite albums for me. But I've never liked Light Years.

I kinda like Getaway, and I love Breakerfall, so I guess that puts me in my own category.
