Totally agree!! I am no expert, just have a master's in marketing!! I am AMAZED at the way marketing is being handled for PJ. IMHO, the bits and pieces of news, the timing, even the merchandising is absolutely well planned out to get to/attract/appeal to a very wide market reaching out to several nationalities, ages and perhaps even religious beliefs. (only thing all seem to have in common is a bit of the political views.---- then again, that topic is taboo)

Looks like your post needs a 'little fixing' Strat.

Too bad the marketing mystery leaves us wondering how bad they are going to fuck this tracklist up.

At least we can be sure of one thing:

I can't wait until about 10 years from now when we get to hear what they left off Lightning Bolt.

And possibly, how much we love LB above their post releases.

If I could give the members of PJ just one piece of advice, it would be this:

When you guys have decided what tracks you want to have on the album, by all means put them on the album. Then take that piece of shit and throw in the bin. Then give us a CD full of the remaining tracks.
:D

What is amazing and completely ridiculous is I felt this way back in 1996 when we got the Hail Hail single with Black Red Yellow. At that time many b sides were available via bootlegs and other releases so ti was obvious they were leaving many amazing tracks off the album.

They are a complete mess when tracking their records. A MESS.

Good point, I felt the same way when I got the launch double-A-side single of Who You Are and Habit. I hated the album before it was even released, I felt the band were purposely making shitty songs to repudiate their fame - turned out that in a way it was true. It's now my favourite album.

It's the irony that this band is at their best, when they're trying to be their worst.

There may be some truth to your statement. I think some of the members are trying to be young again, and rekindle their lost youth. Others may be comfortable and are embracing their old age. This is probably causing conflicts in creativity and direction.

I feel that Ed has suffered from self doubt and self worth from the beginning (see his episode of travelling by van, not feeling he paid his dues, other I could mention but don't have time).

I think his comment about not doing homework is a big part of their current musical avenue.

Trying to be LIKED.

Everybody knows that imposed love is a terrible idea... Never worked and never will.

I kinda wonder if he wants the band and the fans/audience to have a good time and stay generally happy now because they didn't always before and a lot of that is perceived (whether its true or not) to be eds fault for being a cantankerous bastard back then. This is based on absolutely nothing btw.

A lot of it is also just him wanting to have a good time on stage aswell I assume ie. Those new low hanging lights they've got which while look awesome I'm convinced are only really there so ed can swing on em. I get the feeling they value quality of life over music nowawaday, they're not gonna be that band who stop talking mid recording session or work so hard on an album it breaks up thier marriages or someshit.

That video of him talking about setlists in his house does show that he's overthinking himself into a hole and trying to make too many people happy at once however. Mostly the live crowd. I wonder what we'd get if they really really did what they wanted.

That was longer and more rambling than I intended.

Good point about what we'd get if he was left to it.

I think he wants to please as many as possible and the hardcore, while a huge crowd, are only a small part of the audience on a given night.

That said I dot think he's at home or the band, trying to write crowdpleasers.
That accusation has been made about them here previously and it's not one I can agree with at all. It's a ridiculous notion that at this stage in their career they're *trying* to write songs for crowd interaction. Pj are lot of things but they'll never be guilty of that level of contrivance and cycnicism.

Lightning bolt is probably gonna make an ass of me now for saying that haha

They tarred themselves with that brush on fixer.
I don't believe it to be true of anything after that though.
