You're really scraping the bottom of the barrel of poptimism here, huh.

I don't really like her stuff. I guess "Who Knew" is kind of nice

Strong voice, but there's very little about it that sets her apart. And her songs are straight ass.

I'm sorry I yelled.

This stems from me learning she released a top 5 charting album earlier this year and looking into her career for the first time. I did not anticipate that from the Moulin Rouge Lady Marmalade group the one who'd still be relevant 20 years later would be Pink.

Pink is an astute businesswoman. Aguilera has the far better voice, but seems like kind of an idiot. It makes sense that things played out this way.

All weekend I watched droves of people in tie die make their way to Oracle Park. Is this really the end for Dead and Co.?

I was listening to our (Australia's) big youth radio station (Triple J) over the weekend and they had their "Hottest 100 Like a Version" countdown. Like a Version is where every Friday they get a band/act to do a cover version of a song live in studio.

Going through the list was enjoyable enough but I noticed a real shift towards almost MOR covers and really down-tempo vibes. And not in a good down-tempo way, but some real sad sack, yawn fest shitolla.

It got me thinking and I assume that the majority of Triple J's target audience who did the voting are Millenials and I have decided that, in general, their musical tastes have really moved to the more mellow end of the spectrum and are approaching (dare I say it?) boring.

I've actually noticed this trend over the last few years of their regular Hottest 100 annual countdowns, constantly being surprised about the flaccid tunes being roosted up as the best of the best each year. What ever happened to good old guitar and drums??

Now I appreciate this is coming off as all a bit "get off my lawn" and I own that. I am getting older and I do certainly have far less patience or tolerance for things these days. But I also absolutely do seek out new music all the time and I am still of the belief that there is a shit-tonne of great music being produced all over the place all the time. I understand that there is screamo out there but that doesn't seem to hit too hard with the JJJ target audience as it makes up a small percentage of the songs played there (and I personally can't deal with it, but that's simply a preference thing).

Looking back at the top 20 there were a few tunes that bought the rawk, in particular #2 (Denzel Curry doing an awesome version of Bulls on Parade) and old fave Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again by Dune Rats at #11. Lime Cordiale doing a version of I Touch Myself was at #4, and that was cool just for the visual of a dude singing about touching himself whilst checking out the chick he fancies and yet no one batted an eyelid - nice one Australia. And indigenous band King Stingray's take on Yellow was also kind of cool.

BUT the number 3 song in this thing was Ocean Alley doing a (admittedly pretty cool) version of an unarguably smack bang middle of the road song in Baby Come Back. The fucking Wiggles were at number 10 with Tame Impala's Elephant (but I can excuse that as a whole heap of happy childhood in front of the TV memories from the Millenials doing the voting). But you know what was Number 1 on this thing? The DMA's doing Cher's Believe. Like, what the actual fuck people?

I recently checked out an album by Thee Headcoats released this year. This is an old school garage band lead by Billy Childish, a dude in his 60's, and their first release in 22 years. I think they have it right with their song The Kids are All Square. And I too kinda blame Billy Eilish for a lot of it.

Free boops today.

The look on Scott Phillips face really made me chuckle. It is also an absolutely terrible professional photo.
