i dont worry too much about the lyrics, i just love the way he sings them, great great vocals on that oneHardTI wrote:ding ding ding. That's what mostly ruins it for me. If it didn't feel like such a one-off, it might be more appreciated across the board (pun intended). But I guess its individuality is a reason some people like it as well.HardTI wrote:ding ding ding. I'm fine with the lyrics, playful for a change, naughty even.HardTI wrote:ding ding ding. That's what mostly ruins it for me. Yeah, I personally find them witty, well-delivered and with a lot of innuendo. So I'm fine with them. It's unusual for PJ. I also find the song frustrating though, because it's the only example on the album of the kind of 'fun' I want PJ to be having. If they were going to make a 'fun' album, they got it right here.

I'm looking forward to a power ballad. I love power ballads.
They could even make it into the next series of Glee.

While a Western guitar motif lost on the swings drum bass fusion, get your own thoughts into the subconscious often forgotten. "Pendulum" is a sweeping soul from the ballast.

Don't we all!harmless wrote: It's one of the many possibilities. Read my post above; I'd rather it be NAIS revisited than Inside Job revisited.
I'm actually really excited to hear Sirens, despite the mixed early reviews.

Guys, help me out. I was reading a conversation on this forum this morning, it was about Ed's high note singing, and falcetto singing, things like that. Can't find it anywhere. Which thread was that, can anyone remember?

Yeah, they're fantastically silly. It's probably the only song on Backspacer that actually exudes a 'playing for the fun of it and not worried about anything' attitude. The lyrics are so goofy it's almost flippant.Lounge Lizard wrote:If I wanted to critisize JG I would not touch the lyricsharmless wrote:Yeah, I personally find them witty, well-delivered and with a lot of innuendo. And then The Fixer totally contradicts that premise, imo. It's not that bad in itself, but it makes for an album where it doesn't sound like they know what they're doing. That's OK, they probably didn't, which makes it an experiment.McParadigm wrote:Yeah, they're fantastically silly. Re: Lightning Bolt - October 15
I think Pearl Jam was going for light and quick with Backspacer because at the time they felt bogged down with the overly serious and relative thematic consistency of the prior 3 albums. They achieved it, but it still sounded forced and lacked a certain depth we expect from a Pearl Jam composition both musically and lyrically. Based on the 3 songs I've heard and the one we've heard on the uke, sounds like this album is going to try to achieve that prior depth without having the grave seriousness of those other albums mentioned above. I am optimistic it will work because I've never hated a Pearl Jam album, and it sounds like an improvement from Backspacer already.

Best case, of course I'm hoping for pretty straight "powerful and awesome." Realistically, I think I'll be happy if it manages to take some from Column A and some from Column B.harmless wrote:I've grown more and more nervous of Sirens.
