You are exactly correct, verb! Masks catch the large water droplets that are carrying the virus.

verb_to_trust wrote:And I agree gaiters are pointless but please explain to me how "WELL ACCCTUAAALLLEEY they are worse than just breathing"
According to some guy at Duke shooting water through different masks, gaiters seem to break the large water droplets into smaller droplets and lets them through, and because they're smaller, they don't drop to the ground as quickly as normal, mask-free respiration.

But this study only filmed how water goes through a mask, and that does not show that it's more likely to spread disease. It PROBABLY spreads disease more easily, but that hasn't been tested and proven.

So large hocks of phlegm or spit are the only way this virus has been spreading like wildfire for the last year?

If it's not 100% effective, why bother?

Is that your point, verb?

Because that's stupid.

Masks mandates have no impact on infection rates. All you have to do is compare the curves in different places with different positions on mask religion. On a per capita level they are all basically the same. They don't do shit.

When you call water droplets that are too small to be seen by the naked eye "large hocks of phlegm," I feel like you're not practicing good faith debating strategies.

Okay but you realize cotton doesn't stop infectious particles right? Like if Ebola was spreading and I told you no man it's cool just wear a cotton mask, you're good. Would you be comfortable going out in public where other people are?

Ebola is spread very differently. It doesn't spread through regular respiration. Someone has to cough and dowse you in fluid to spread it. Sitting next to a symptom-free person who is infected with ebola is not considered a risk.

COVID is highly infectious in symptom free people, which means people who don't know their sick are breathing out the virus. Masks are effective against respiratory droplets expelled during normal breathing.

I haven't reviewed the data, but I'd guess a coughing, symptomatic person is going to spread COVID fairly effectively, even through a mask.

If you want to talk about useless tactics. Let's talk about these COVID apps that tell you if you've been near a person who was responsible enough to download a COVID app and tell it they were positive and yet irresponsible enough to go out shopping.

Substitute "actually very deadly respiratory virus" for Ebola then. You cool with your cotton mask? Because I'm pretty sure the guys that actually deal with those types of things in labs are in full suits with respirators and shit.

Actual quote from Fauci on if worst of pandemic is behind us:

"I'm not absolutely 100 percent certain, but there's a really good chance that we will do fine, at least in the immediate future"

What the hell kind of messaging is this? Just shut. the. hell. up.

We've had half of our student body in the building (1000+) for the last two months and have had some positive cases, but NO evidence of spread here at school. All of the infections came from social gatherings outside of school.

Masks and good ventilation work.

All I know is every school year since my kids started going to school they were constantly sick and happily passed it on to me and my wife. Colds, sinus infections, strep....not one of those...all three every year for all of us. This year not even a sniffle and my youngest has been 5 days a week since Oct. Whatever mitigation efforts they are using to stop the spread of germs is working out for me this year.

Exposure is exposure when it comes to this virus. Isn't it obvious by now? Or do you really honestly believe politicians when they try to blame the public?
