Best case, of course I'm hoping for pretty straight "powerful and awesome." Realistically, I think I'll be happy if it manages to take some from Column A and some from Column B.

I guess FoN is kinda power ballady too? Bleurgh.
I'm worried about this being Inside Job more than FoN. Before Inside Job came out, people were saying it was 'like Black', a totally epic rock ballad, Mike is God. Etc. etc. We also had comparisons with Pink Floyd, to top it all off. So far, this is history repeating, so either he's got everything right this time, or it's the same again. But I agree with you; Black is totally a power ballad. But it has melancholy to counteract the cheese. Inside Job doesn't really.
Inside Job got botched. Between the lyrics (Sorry Mike) and the crap production, the song is a dud. With better lyrical treatment and any type of production that doesn't sound like it's from inside a tin can (I guess that's what Inside Job really means), the song could be powerful. It could be pink floyd-esque.

Here's hoping Sirens is actually what Inside Job was trying to be.

Mike's comments about how proud he is of it would suggest that it is. So yay.

Is anyone else worried about the amount of fadeouts on this album?

That issue resides way, way down at the bottom of my list of concerns.

Back to the fadeouts conversation, eh? No, they don't bother me too much. Rival's about the only one that I wish they'd let end naturally. And, that's only because I can't get enough of that crazy carnival music.

Does anyone remember what page, or around what page, has that little clip of sirens that someone played on guitar and recorded?

I think Stip posted it in the "Reviews" thread.

Edit: just checked and he didn't! shame

I don't remember the page, but it's not worth listening to so I wouldn't worry. If I'd listened to it a second time it was in danger of ruining the song.

Can Getaway (doug version) be used in future song tournaments?

I really like the music to Rival, but damn those lyrics suck. I don't really care about fade outs and prefer them to abrupt stops (Dirty Frank) or songs just going forever like Crazy Mary live.

Don't know if it's been mentioned here but someone on the Porch message board said Mike is doing an interview tonight at 9:00 PM pacific time on this radio station.
