Mrs Rangi and I went through these last month - really enjoyed all of them. Mel Gibson is a fucking icon!

The music sucks (not just the ending, but the whole manipulative lot of it), and I hate the kid's voiceover for the same reasons. I wish the same story had been told with a more blunt, faux-documentary style. The best example I can think of right now is Martha, Marcy, Mae, Marlene -- that movie took a similar "before-and-after a traumatic event" approach, and it felt so real. This one is executed well, but it feels very Hollywood in that execution.

I still think Mad Max should have won for best pic this year.
