He'll probably just repeat "all the tired horses in the sun...how'm I supposed to get any riding done?" over and over for three minutes.

Before speculating, let us consider the nature and meaning of speculation itself.

Or that. Who knows? If it is, it's likely that it's that instrumental, and the brackets will appear on the album version as well.
What?!

I wouldn't even say that instrumental is necessarily on the album at all. It could be just some studio noodling they used or some outtake like the stuff in Immagine in Cornice. It's more likely one of these two songs is the one they soundchecked since they soundchecked it and all.

No disrespect to Harmless, it just struck me as a bizarre inference-- "if the song is called Lightning Bolt, then it's likely that it's that instrumental we heard, and also that the parentheses are part of the song title". Did I miss something?

Perhaps the opening track to LB is just an instrumental lead-in to MYM (sort of like Master/Slave is to Once, but with it's own separate track number). That would make sense then why they are going to play it right before MYM on the setlist. The reason for the parenthesis could just be that this track is an untitled intro to MYM.

I think it's already distinguished from the album by virtue of being part of a setlist of songs. Yanno? It's not like the band will forget and think they have to play us the whole album at that point.
Maybe they will.

I'm thinking its an instrumental/half song from the new album a la wasted reprise or something. Songs in brackets have shown up on setlists before, what does it usually mean?

Lotta backspacer on that setlist. 3 song block!

LIKELY BUT NOT DEFINITE.

Maybe I won't speculate from now on. Clearly my speculations are more ridiculous than everyone else's.

Where'd you get the "likely" though? Unpack this for me.

No, not that either. Nobody knows!

You guys sure know how to speculate the living shit out of something.
ridleybradout wrote: they often have songs they may decide to cut on the spot in brackets on the setlist.
I'd put money on it being as simple as that - there's a song called 'Lightning Bolt', they're planning on playing it before MYM, but will most likely skip it.

By the way - did anyone notice the projected set is 40 songs long?!

OK, I'm guessing the parentheses part is what you're struggling with here. 1) The song we heard on the clip other than MYM sounded like an instrumental (and yes, I'm guessing) and because the other clip was MYM, we can speculate that they have a relationship, 2) that relationship is possibly a Master/Slave intro relationship, so that was to 'Once' what this is to MYM. That would seem to be suggested by its placement behind the song on this setlist, 3) They don't usually name albums after songs, so if they have in this case, I would guess that it's not a song as such. 4) So that leads me to also guess that the parentheses are nothing but a cool little pointless addition to the title, like the 'red dot' of Yield. I can't think of any reason that the parentheses would be there but this is the best I can do to make one up.

Yes, seems that way to me too.

I didn't realise there was a precedent of brackets in setlists. If that's the case, then forget everything I said. That's what this is.

Since when did 'likely' imply any knowledge one way or the other? It implies an idea in my head...

It seemed likely in my own mind and I explained the thought process.

Sorry if this has already been asked and answered, but what is the source of/story behind that setlist pic?
