Why do people keep talking about putting Cold Confession and Let It Ride in when retracking LB? They were written and recorded a decade ago and have nothing to do with LB other than they were leaked in the same year :?

Of The Earth on the other hand would have made a fine addition to the latter half of this record...

lightning bolt, the song, could improve in a live setting. it was at least kinda exciting at wrigley, but kinda sloppy too. they tighten it up, and who knows.

Of the Earth is from the same sessions as LIR and CC during the Avocado era, so I don't see how it's any different.

OTE was re recorded for Backspacer too though, so it's a little more modern.

Well I guess I have a lot in common with the song, because its still shit. The genesis of breathy, sinus issues vedder.

For me too, so far.
Where did Backspacer and Self Titled sit for the two of you?
S/T worst & Backspacer 2nd worst
Thanks. Yours and Kevin's opinions are in the half dozen or so I was keeping an eye out for on this Board. And considering your rankings this doesn't bode well for my appreciation of Lightning Bolt (yet to listen to it).
The fact that the songs sound like lame re-writes of old PJ songs is only part of the problem. They've done that before and succeeded. I think the problem here is that the resulting songs just aren't any good. No memorable hooks, no exceptional lyrics, no risks. I have no desire to "go back" and listen to any of the songs again. This is the first time that has happened for me with a PJ album.

Actually, OTE was recorded 3 times. 2004, 2009, and 2010.

I'm still 15 pages or so behind (slow down, guys!), but I now get the Tex Mex reference w/r/t SBM! [Spaghetti Western would have been equally appropriate.]

I don't even remember how Thumbing My Way goes.

Something, something rusted signs, something about thumbing my way I assume... I tend to nod off by the second minute.
