I'm a big fan of Arcade Fire's earlier albums but this one just isn't grabbing me. I think that starting with the annoying hidden track doesn't help things, although I accept that perhaps I need to give it another few spins.

I find it quite...boring. I do however reserve the right to in future post about it in the "180 Thread".

I tried twice and I haven't heard the end of the album yet. It does bore me too. I like the single but not overly. I'll keep trying as I am seeing them in January and I'd like to be familiar with the new stuff.

I think that live you'll be in for a great show regardless, their earlier stuff is stellar and they have certainly proven their chops as a live act.

I'm going for the 8/23 Barclays presale this morning. Despite this disappointing album, I can't miss these guys live. So good.

I will not see this band on this tour out of pure principle. A dress code? The self-importance quotient of this band keeps skyrocketing. It's a shame that they produce a lot of great music because this kind of nonsense should have a rock band laughed into hipster oblivion. There, I said it.

Huh, where are you seeing that? I really doubt that. They'd never pull that off. I know they wanted people dressing up for those small club shows they've done. But, I've seen nothing about the actual tour.

I haven't finished listening to their latest album. It's ok. The first real track is pretty awesome but I found myself getting bored after that.

The first one is still my favorite of theirs, but I doubt I'll be going to any of their shows since I lack formal wear for the time being and don't want to be stared at by a bunch of hipsters.

I've found parts of every album after Funeral to be enjoyable, but failing to engage on the whole, and this one is no different. Ultimately, I think disc one is more successful, and probably would have made a fine album on its own. The concert dress code thing goes along with this double album format to show that these guys definitely have some out-there ambitions, and are actively seeking to cultivate their artistic existence in a very specific fashion, but it's way too heavy-handed for me.

I don't have time to waste indulging something that doesn't reciprocate. I won't say that I'm done with this band, because they keep managing to string me along almost ten years after they were relevant to me, but I'm going to keep my interaction with the music at arm's length.

The Awful Sound -> Afterlife run makes this album special for me. If I had to cut the album down to a shorter running time I'd so something like this:

That would be a nice 43 minutes album. But I'm happy with the album as it is because I like every song and it never feels too long to me.

To be fair, during this tour you're not really seeing Arcade Fire, you're seeing 'The Reflektors', their concept-album concept-band. So you dress up as well. I'm sure it's just part of the fun for this particular album, and nothing to do with any future ambitions. They'll most probably go back to being Arcade Fire for the next one, with perfectly normal attire expected at gigs.
