I don't think they're doing it in a cynical way, tossing off anything cause they think the crowd will eat it up. More that they see people singing along to guitar parts and chanting and singing entire verses with out ed that it gives them the warm fuzzies and they want to keep that going. Idk maybe i'm wrong, it's only really backspacer that it seems live fun was a factor in, and that might only be because they said as much . We'll have to see with LIGHTNING BBBBOOOOWWWWWWWWWLLLLLt . It just seems that they would never release an album full of 'cold confessions' because they'd be worried about losing the crowd. Or they would , and just barely play it live(binaural, motherfuckers do you speak it?), which i wouldn't mind.

That is why EPs are the way to go, someone listen to Mike for the love of god.

That intent to foster crowd interaction isn't something I can really detect on S/T, at least not explicitly, but it is undeniably present on both Unthought Known and The Fixer.

He basically said as much the first time I saw them play uk. I am not sure i buy that for the fixer. Or better, the fixer is a song that is built around a shared chorus organically. It is what the song is. Whereas uk is forced in that direction

Ed's been struggling with this "pleasing everyone" thing for a while now. There's that interview in PJ20 from Yield when he's talking about the stalker who crashed their car into his fence.. and he prefaces the story with the, "you're trying to please these people over here... but if you do these people are pissed... and if you sell too many album, these people hate you"
