They got three prospects (including two very good one) and a draft pick for a player who was going to play one more non-competitive season for the team before leaving as a free agent. Seems like a decent move to me.

The author used an disproportionately high number of Mariners players as examples ... interesting because none of them are still on the Mariners now.
