touching indians. It bums me out that they gave up and his wife is kind of evil, but why did you find it stressful?

Gyllenhaal and Russo both totally own their parts, and Lou's sidekick rings totally true -- there are a ton of lost souls in LA just like him. And the whole film does a very admirable job of feeling creepy and scummy without ever going too far. I love that the score often has an Explosion In the Sky/Friday Night Lights triumphant sort of vibe on top, with some sort of discordant synth sounds underneath; it's a cool way to illustrate that Lou sees his path as one of accomplishment and positive growth, despite how bankrupt his motivations really are.
