The main thing is this: It's unfocused, as if a drunk were behind the wheel. If JJ Abrams would've made this movie, it would've been a different story. It feels like random fan-fiction. Most of the story lines and characters go nowhere or in circles and feel pointless. The OT was well thought out from beginning to end with realized character arcs. This trilogy is like a relay race that can go anywhere, no matter how pointless.

How so? Saying something is wrong doesn't make it so. It's a fact that JJ Abrams had a different story in mind.

We've already had all of these conversations previously in the thread. You want use to watch two and half hours of YouTube videos to get your points, but you don't want to re-read the thread?

That's a long f'ing thread. I'm not gonna go digging through there. It's easy to listen to videos at work while playing games on my phone.

"realized character arcs" from the OT
First: Hello! The OT was a completed trilogy. We're not done with the new one.
And other than your ponit about JJ Abrams making a different story - No shit. He's a different director. That is the only factual thing that you are correct about here.

Also, relying on JJ Abrams to tell a cohesive story is a fool's errand.

writer/director*. Key plot points/ characters would have been entirely different. This is an epic trilogy and they should at least have a good idea of where the characters are going and how they're changing and why. They're just winging it from movie to movie, scene to scene.

Incorrect. It's cause I watched some YouTube videos that made me feel stupid for liking a stupid movie. I didn't pay attention and I should have. I'm trying to wake you up because you're asleep. You're blindly feasting on the poopy meal Disney sets before you like sad fanboys.

I'm angry and saddened because of what could've been. So many good cliffhangers at the end of TFA ... all of them were either ignored or treated poorly. All the wasted potential.

This movie's fuckin great.

Have we ever talked about the fact that when the saber flies to Rey in TFA, it’s Obi wans theme that’s playing over it?
It’s also the theme playing when luke returns to find the homestead burning.
Cool.

I wasn't paying attention. I enjoyed it on a surface level, cause of the pretty people and effects, .. and it's STAR WARS HOLY SHIT! But, paying attention, actually based on its own merits, it's really bad story telling.

True. I do believe the movie is beauty and i like what Rian brought to the table but the way a lot of the things were resolved was a little disappointing to me.
Im at peace tough with what happen in the movie and im hopeful that JJ will make a very good movie, and close as many of those incongruences as he can.

I do believe the third film will bring the first two together more.

No its not.
I absolutely love that Rian turned star wars on its head and didnt go a tried and true route with the characters and storylines. Its absolutely fantastic and there is far more depth that i anticipated their could be with star wars. I absolutely love what he did. its not bad storytelling, he just took it a different way than what people wanted. I, for one, love the direction.
And i do believe that JJ tying it all up will make for an absolute wonderful closing to the trilogy.

Same. Kudos to him for trying something different with a mega blockbuster. It doesn't always work, but it does most of the time. I think it will standout from all of the cookie cutter Marvel movies years from now.

The direction, when it does actually go somewhere, is fine. It's bad storytelling cause of the momentum/flow and lack thereof on the journey to the few places it actually goes... and the point of movies is to enjoy the journey.
