I made the mistake of watching Independence Day: Resurgence with the kids over the weekend. I knew it was going to be bad, but this was on a whole other level of bad

Not so bad it's good bad, just rotten bad corpse bad?
There is nothing good about this movie - if it even had a hint of being self aware it could have saved it, but no - it's just awful. The kids enjoyed it though, but they're 10 and 12 - so are still basically idiots

You should kidnap those kids and make them watch Star Wars next weekend. Then they'll know.

They both suck, but I would never recommend anyone watch Resurgence.

I'm not a movie critic guy and I usually find some enjoyment in just about anything, but this was so...so...ham-fisted. I might sue.

Some of the pictures are pretty. But man, this movie so blatantly ripped itself off.

Doors closing in the mothership while you're trying to escape in one of their ships? Check.

Guy blowing himself up to take out a mothership? Check.

David Levinson getting the girl at the end? Check. (Particularly ham-fisted, by the way. It made me cringe...and I'm usually too dumb to notice)

Judd Hirsch being overly Jewish? Check.

And the goddamn half-assed retry of "the speech" when a few people started standing up and paying attention. Fuck.

Mike Birbiglia has a new movie out. His first, Sleepwalk with Me, was something of a masterpiece. The newest is called Don't Think Twice, and I enjoyed it. It wasn't trememdous, but it had a good heart and is worth a look.

Yeah. Well, "hate" is a bit strong. But that movie was bad.

The Lobster seems like a whole lot of pointlessly high-concept defamiliarization to explore something ultimately facile and straightforward.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.
