I'm trying to keep up with How Did This Get Made so I just watched "The Phantom." It was so bizarre.

Oddly enough I watched it of my own volition a few months ago. They (HDTGM crew) got one or two things wrong and I was surprised they didn't mention how buff "Billy Zane" got during the fight scenes. I mean, that was the most blatant "we're not even going to try" stunt work I've seen in big budget movies.

That said it was a hilarious episode.

I'm going to watch The Shadow before listening to either of the two latest episodes.

Suicide squad?

I wanted to kill myself about halfway through. Least it wasn't false advertising.

I like How Did This Get Made but they often sound like they don't even really pay attention to the movies they're watching.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Speaking of Linklater, I finally watched Boyhood on TV the other day and really hated it.

Just found it really flat and uninteresting. Stilted, awkward, somewhat cloying at parts, weirdly tone-deaf, kind of artless in its direction, not particularly insightful or illuminating. I can appreciate the way it came together and think the concept is novel and could be interesting but the end result was disconcertingly desultory and conservative. Easily my least-favorite Linklater movie so far.

A quite passably pretentious platypus we have here.

Gonna watch "The Lobster" tonight. Can I get a spoiler-free RM verdict on that one? I've heard it's great.
