That's the line that I don't like.
I think “out of this world” is meant to signify that clairvoyants live in another mental reality - one much better than the hellscape we’re currently living in.

I reckon they have written plenty of stuff like this - not necessarily synth pop, but in terms of sonically and creatively - in the past, but it didn't "fit" the PJ mould. It's a bit like they've said, fuck it, we're doing it.

Jeff in particular would be stoked.

Yeah that was my interpretation: it must be nice to be blissfully ignorant.

Agreed, still a clunky lyric.

It might strike you as odd but that was my interpretation as well and even then I think it's a poor lyric.

I can't think of a Vedder lyric/performance (I can't really separate the two) combo I've liked more than this song post-Riot Act.

Post Avocado I agree with you.

I might be with you. That one lyric is my grief right now.

I agree. And Avocado only has a couple moments in contention.

Ed’s phrasing is better here than in decades.

Nothing, and I mean nothing, can be as bad as "that's the moss in the aforementioned verse".

The more I listen the more Im sure that Eddie is going to kill this song's chance of success. His voice doesnt fit, and the lyrics are jarringly Eddie (which means stupid faux philsophical and way too earnest). I do enjoy it - but the two other people I showed it too who aren't diehard Pearl Jam fans both didn't. One, who's a casual Pearl Jam fan felt it was too electronic. The other, who isn't a big Pearl Jam fan but has heard a lot of their songs through me and is in general a music buff felt like it was generic new wave and selling out (that they should have gone noisier and darker instead)

Well that's a shame.

It's a small sample but this song has prompted universal acclaim (and delighted surprise) from music fans that I know*, both personally and elsewhere on the internet. People really, really dig it.

I don't recall any song from the previous albums making a dent on these kinds of people at all.

(* People who are passionate about a wide range of music, not Pearl Jam weirdos.)

That’s good to hear. I’m seeing a bunch of dumb-headed boners looking for more cock-rock. Makes me wanna go all Castro on their white asses.
