Backspacer?
Lightning bolt
Avocado

The earthy sounds of riot act and no code are doing it for me these days..
It suprised me that backspacer wasn't last but at 3rd last, cause I generally don't enjoy that album but it has more of a feeling to me than lightning bolt and it doesn't have let the records play, the flattest lamest attempt to be fun I've ever had to endure . On avocado, even on my vinyl version, when I get to comatose I regret my whole choice of attempting to reattempt to enjoy that album , I absolutely love down on the upside , how could Adam Kaspar make drums sound so horrorfiying

Lightning Bolt

I think that's a pretty fair representation of where I stand on all-things-PJ. I must say though, things are on the move. March Madness always gets me re-ignited with Pearl Jam and this year in particular I've noticed some pretty big changes as to where my heart lies. I wouldn't be surprised if this list changed fairly drastically if I was to do this again this time next year.

So I guess something like this:

No Code
Vitalogy
Yield
Binaural
Riot Act
Ten
Vs
Lightning Bolt
Avocado
Backspacer
Revised:

No Code
Yield
Vitalogy
Binaural
Riot Act

This was my ranking on July 21, 2015:
PHATJ wrote: 1. Vitalogy

3. Binaural
4. Ten
5. Vs.
6. No Code
The top 6. Are all FANTASTIC albums. Binaural is making the most impact on me currently (and has risen from near the bottom of my rankings to near the top), but I love all of these records.
----------------------

7. Lightning Bolt
8. Pearl Jam
9. Riot Act
I like aspects and sections of these three a lot, but the overall quality and consistency of the top six isn't there.
-----------------------

10. Backspacer
Backspacer just sucks so fucking bad.
My updated ranking:

1. Vitalogy
2. Binaural
3. Yield
4. Ten
5. Vs.
6. No Code
----------------------------
7. Lightning Bolt
8. Pearl Jam
9. Riot Act
----------------------------
10. Backspacer

With the exception of Binaural, which continues to make it's way up the list, everything stayed in it's same position. I was tempted to move Riot Act up too, but I just can't pull the trigger on that.

I thought you were fairly supportive of Backspacer.

For people's bottom rankings (I'm thinking of the meh comment or phatJ's so fucking bad comment for backspacer) are these albums you actually do not like at all, or are they just albums that you think are decent, but not up to the standards you had come to expect.

I know i'm in the former. Even the albums at the bottom of my list I think are pretty good.

The more i think about lightning bolt, the more I hate it.

backspacer was at least an attempt for something slightly different.

Then we wait 10 years and get lightning bolt. Watered down by the numbers Pearl Jam.

:shake:

My heart breaks.

Like actually hate? or are disappointed by but think is ok?

There's probably a lot of daylight between my placing Binaural at the bottom of my list, and Hlniv's meh, and PhatJ's fucking terrible

It's not something Im proud of from pearl jam. I would never show it and be like "this is why!! get it?!"

I will fully admit i am far too invested in Pearl Jam to give an objective opinion on any of their stuff. Of course I can still find enjoyment in listening to Backfacer and Thunder Bolt, but I think there are far far far far superior rock records out there.

My bottom two are the last two: Backspacer and Lightning Bolt

I really appreciate Backspacer because it knows exactly what it is and I like that they tried to consciously do something different with it. It's not nearly as good as Vitalogy or Vs. or Yield but, then again, I'm not asking it to be. I'm happy with it as it is - a fun little record.

Lightning Bolt is much more problematic for me because in many ways it feels like the opposite of Backspacer in that they didn't go into it with any kind of game plan. Rather, it sounds like they did everything they could just to "collect" 13 songs so they could finally put an album out.

I still get satisfaction when I listen to it, but I can't tell you the last time I wanted to go out of my way to listen to it.
