Yeah, I'd like someone to chuck another cue ball at him.

Nothing I can say will be as bad as putting BOB out front for this one.
Wtf is the thinking behind that?

Mirella, after one listen I have 4 questions.
1. Overall how did Eddie sound?
2. Did any members of the band really stand out?
3. How would you describe the feel of the record
4. Did parts of it remind you of previous albums?

Also I am impressed with what you could do with one listen?

Mirella's review still has me pretty excited. I'm really intrigued by the 'TV show' aspect of SBM. It sounds super cheesy, though. I like how the sequencing seems to work near the beginning; 'Sirens' is a beautiful love song, then CRASH/Lightning bolt! after which follows the deeper, darker, chaotic stuff. I hope that's how it works out.

Well I think she answered a lot of that, in that ed sounds noticeably different on a few occasions and overall it's familiar Pj but different. Plus multiple mentions of guitars.

I don't want to have to explain my dislike for BO'B again. It doesn't matter anyway, I'm still fucking excited for the album.

Me too.
This could be the one we know they have in em. The great one.
They're due for that moment.

I'm just wanting better than the last two, and I'm pretty confident we'll have it here. Something I can put at number 8 in my rankings, above Backspacer (9) and S/T (10). That would make me happy enough.

I'm kind of not sure about Lightning Bolt sounding more cheerful on record, though. I was hoping we had Unthought Known with a pair of balls.

He hopes Lightning Bolt, the album, will remind people how good Pearl Jam is, and that they still like them. For B, Lightning Bolt and Backspacer feel like one big record.

Horrible quote.

People don't need to be 'reminded' they like Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam need to be writing music that people like.

Harmless, don't forget Riot act. That one lingers around the bottom ranking and once in a while does a great sham of pretending its a great record but then it slinks away again FOR MONTHS and you entirely forget its existence.
Can't keep &all or none save it from malingering in the absolute bottom of the rankings IMO

I wish I agreed with you Dime. But a great album takes effort in writing, recording and mixing. I fear they don't have the inclination to commit the time and effort necessary at the moment. Maybe they can just pull a great album out of the air but it rarely happens without a lot of effort (and a little lightning in a bottle)

Isn't part of the problem here that they seem to be trying to write what they think people will like instead of just trusting their instincts?

Follow that logic and you end up a band trying to write betterman II in order TO be liked again. Fuck that shit.

Riot Act is in my top three PJ albums. All I'm saying is, nobody in the general public has cared that PJ existed since No Code. And Brendan O'Brien isn't going to change that by covering their music in sugar.

Its hard for me not to expect a great album since i love all of them.
Im expecting something different from Backspacer, and it seems we are getting that.
So, im happy.
