Tree. Honest question. You realise the luke you want is in this movie right?
He started off all reluctance and regret.
Then Yoda and Leia make him aware of what’s happening.
He then takes Rey. Teases her. Teaches her. Then is terrified for her when he sees her going to the darkness.
He then turns up at the end in the most Jedi act imaginable and saves the day.
The war is just beginning and I will not be the last Jedi.
He even taunts kylo with an expression kylos father always used. See ye round kid.
The luke you want is right there.
Are you going to answer the question or...?
Stick to memes Burt.

He deleted the question so he doesnt want it answered. And also his question was not in relation to my comment towards you. Formidable is an interesting choice of words. The discussion was whether Luke ever challenged Rey's belief system. And yes, he did. And yes, i agree with many of your points above as well.

You are misrepresenting my argument. Given where and how Rey supposedly spent her entire life it would be interesting and make sense to see her struggling a little bit to adapt to new environments . That worked well in Wonder Woman. A little different but similar.
As far as Luke, some of it makes sense but a lot of his character changes are unearned. I don't care what direction they go in with the characters but it is important they get there logically.

I saw Darkness
I sensed it building in him
I’d seen it in moments in his training
But then I looked inside
And it was beyond what I’d ever imagined
(screaming voices in anguish)
Snoke had already turned his heart
He would bring destruction and pain and death and the end of everything I love because of what he will become
And for the briefest moment I thought I could stop it
It passed like a fleeting shadow
And I was left with shame
And with consequence
And the last thing I saw were the eyes of a frightened boy who’s master had failed him

I love that. Great lines.
Also, on top of all that one must take into consideration all else he has learned about the Jedi since ROTJ. He believes that the Jedi have been a big reason for mucho f the chaos in the world (he's right), their failure to realize palpatine and vader, the fact he himself flirted with the dark side, the fact that his family...the all powerful skywalkers....were responsbible for so much death and destruction in the universe.
Man, all this makes sense and is totally reasonable for why Luke is where he is at this point in the story
Bring in Yoda for yet another lesson to Young Skywalker.
This kicks Luke back into action.
Its so wonderful

Mark Hamill was right, before Disney made him shut up.

Is it that moment?
I think it’s the moment he goes to the rock and opens himself up again. He feels Leia in pain.
He’s terrified. Then feels what’s happening down the mountain and goes to stop it. It’s then that Yoda steps in to snap him truly awake.

It's all wrong. Luke wouldn't have behaved that way.

Exactly. There was never any indication that Luke would act that way in that situation, even for a moment. In fact, when faced with a far more dangerous situation and a villain that had already committed atrocities, he still saw the good in that villain and chose not to kill him. And on top of that, his actions were vindicated, thus instilling this belief in him even further. There is absolutely no reason Luke would decide to kill kylo except the writers suck.
This is a textbook example of what you call "acting out of character" and all the flowery voiceover in the world can't help that.

He would and he did.
In a movie called the last Jedi. It’s episode 9 in the franchise.
You should really watch it sometime. It’s brilliant

Yeah. Misogyny
Luke had no abilities in A New Hope. He got his ass shot from that trainer thing, and then got a lucky shot on the Death Star.
Then in Empire, he got his ass handed to him by Darth Vader.
He never had any abilities until ROTJ.

Text book?
Surely the text book says your hero turns up all powerful in the last act and saves the day.
Oh wait. That’s what happened.

This is all fine and dandy of a concrete rebuttal but you can't just ignore the story laid out before you of everything that has occurred since then. If you are taking the luke at the end of ROTJ and inserting him immediately into the confrontation with Kylo, then sure, i agree with you.
But that isn't what is going on. The character has changed. You dont like that change nor what his character turned into (a bit more complexity occurring over a 30 year growth period) but he is acting reasonably from where Luke is when we find him on achtoo.
