pretty bored of this song after 3 listens

At this point i'm hoping for/expecting an album a little better than LB

I put SBWM on the car for my drive home and I found that it dropped back a couple of notches, but with each subsequent listen (I just left it on for a 15 minute drive) it opened up more and more each time (same as last night and this morning) It think maybe it’s the unusual structure of the song - not a lot of songs built like this in the catalog, and it really deviates from the intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, verse and/or chorus, outro structure (with the verses all sharing the same basic structure)

1. Starts with drum intro
2. Moves into what I think is actually the chorus (the cleaner version)
3. Verse one starts around 24 seconds, but there are a few different verse structures -they mostly transition into each other with some kind of rising flourish
4. Transitions into the la la la part around 45 seconds that, rather than the chorus, seems to be a second verse that they just didn’t add words to. Or maybe it’s the first bridge
5. Around one minute moves into the third new verse, each with a different vocal melody (or second if you think the la la la is a bridge, or maybe the first or second bridge)
6. Around 1:10 moves back to the same structure as the first verse, with a slightly more aggressive edge to it
7. Around 1:35 (again with that rising/angry flourish) moves into what felt like a bridge the first time around but now has lyrics. Feels more like a third type of verse, or a second repeating bridge and I think it’s twice as long as last time.

we are barely halfway through the song and we've already had a really large number of discrete parts. This is cramming a LOT of song into a relatively small window.

8. Around 2:00 transition (again, angry at the end) into the first verse (which has my favorite vocal melody) for the third time
9. Transitions into the solo/bridge around 2:20 with the same rising transition – this time the solo begins underneath it, and almost halts at the start like it is waiting for permission to begin
10. Although it is a super wanky solo it actually feels slightly buried in the mix under the much heavier dun dun cadence of the rest of the band, like it’s keeping it pinned down. Makes the solo much more interesting
11. 2:50 we get back to the chorus that actually began the song, with extra layers and atmosphere on Eddie and a new guitar part galloping underneath
12. Back to the first verse for the fourth time and it basically closes out the song – we do get a proper outro, but the outro is basically happening underneath and the same time as the final verse, and they come together in the final seconds

So while it is musically not that complex (at least the main riff - lots of interesting color happening around the margins), the way the song is layered and structured keeps putting up roadblocks as you try and slot it into the familiar lanes you would expect.

I guess it was a little better second listen

I want someone to force Matt to use a China cymbal or two

an actual musician would have the better vocabulary to either describe what's going on or tell me I'm wrong.

I'm listening to both songs on a loop; yep these are better than I thought I could expect

I think Jeff's playing is really good on this

I feel like what stip is calling the first verse is the chorus, but the lines are sort of blurred due to the weird structure...so Im not sure.

I think 4 Choruses are too much. I think Verse 2 and Chorus 3 is the worst part of the song...Chorus 4 is the second worst part of the song because its boring by that part.

I am amazed you didn’t get into an accident with all this analysis.
