Everyone gives inside job a hard time. I think he did a good job of getting or teying to get into eds headspace and writing lyrics out that ed would want to sing.

Got it as an opener once in Dublin. Not my favourite opener ever but it's a pretty good song.
Poor mike gets a tough time over it.

I agree. It's not as horrible as I make it out to be, just for fun.

My main issue with it is that because the lyrics are horribly vague and clichéd, my enjoyment of it was very short-lived. Once you've heard the song a few times, there's nothing catching there. Nice music with blah to decorate it.

i loved it when it came out..and yeah, the lyrics are cliché, but i actually like them.

I can see them working for some people, and for me they did for a while.

Yeah, I kind of just don't forgive them for tarnishing one of my favorite pieces of music they've ever written. Ditto with Army Reserve, actually. Not that Ed necessarily would have done a whole lot better. Anyway, I guess this isn't the thread for those thoughts.

The whole album suffered from dodgy lyrics, but I think Inside Job and Big Wave take the title.

It might just be true that take off Inside Job and Big Wave, and S/T becomes a pretty good album. I don't think most of the lyrics are *bad*, just too detailed and journalistic / prosaic.

Riot Act contains some truly creative political songs, lyrically. S/T is just full of plain-speaking lyrics which are ultimately quite boring.

Other song's imperfections are not Inside Job's victories. You're more than welcome to like the track, chief, but the lyrics still suck beyond all possible measure.

We all have songs we like that we fully realize have bad lyrics.

Add me to team gems and rhinestones. A catchy metal/punk number like MYM has a place at the table. If Lightning Bolt has atmosphere I'm on board. If Ed wants to hit the emotional high points with an Unthought Known type song he has my permission.

I'm all for emotional high points and if this album does, great. I just don't think Unthought Known did.

I'm definitely that way, lyrics seldom have a huge impact on me one way or the other, but I have my limits.

Inside Job have been nice as a long instrumental. In truth, Ed should have had his lyrics for the entire album returned to him with the feedback: "Try again. P.S. Don't let Mike anywhere near prose. Sincerely, your fans."
