Well, I was responding more to Bruce and his band's insipid take on the song more than Ed's contribution.

Ed wasn't terrible on either. But, yeah, the band was pretty tepid for that cover.

Great Monk song, pretty cool version. On the fence about the keyboard sound effects but otherwise this is pretty solid jazz fusion in the early Chick Corea vein:

Doesn't sound much better with official bootleg audio either.

The E-street band are much better suited to the Easybeat's classic Friday On My Mind, which they opened the Sydney show with instead the other night.

Warning: Bruce might have overdone it with the socks down the pants trick here.

Seems reasonable to me, particularly considering the abundance of evidence that he has no fans outside of New Jersey.

I always feel a sort of distance with Bruce's work...like I can admire it from afar, or understand what makes it a sort of median line of American music, but for vast lengths of time I don't really FEEL anything from it. It often feels like he's just sharing an exercise in storytelling with you.

When he DOES connect to the heart, on the other hand, his best work is so great that I cannot fathom not loving it.

Bruce Springsteen understands the American dream better than any other musician, and like McP said, his best work us really powerful. He's definitley hit or miss, though.
