How is a war between Israel and Hamas and Hezbollah and the Houthis not about Iran's proxies? But this war is winding down. Combat fatalities have been dropping by double digit rates every month. Israel will make peace with the Saudis this year, a triumph of American diplomacy and Biden's greatest achievement. What we must care about now is creating an environment in Gaza that no longer supports the Islamic fundamentalism that destroyed neighboring nations like Syria and Yemen and instead build Gaza into the Dubai of the east... and effort that is driven by the abandonment of historic ethnic hatred and resentment and the adoption modern, western ideas, the same process that turned places like Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, and Korea into the proud and prosperous nations they are today. We as American voters have a unique position in this; we can either foster the hatred and project our internalized sense of grievance and self-loathing in the face of change onto the people of Gaza and in the process doom them to generations of war or we can recognize the Gazan's agency and human potential and offer them the chance to join our world of enlightenment values by giving up the hatred inherent in "from the river to the sea" and making peace with Israel as their neighbors have done. I know which side I am on.

***extreme trigger warning***

"Screams Before Silence" is a documentary on the violence against women and children committed by Gazans on 07.Oct.

I can't watch this type of thing, but putting it out there for those who still pretend it was "resistance".

I do understand your argument, but I feel like this is a case of seeing the forest but not the tree that is in desperate shape. You ask how this war isn’t about Iran’s proxies, but those proxies have been involved in this for a very long time. Do the proxies get their actual power from Iran or from the conditions on the ground where they are? Will Israel crushing Gaza and any hope of return be good or bad for proxy recruitment?

At the end of the day, it is Israel that just spent 6 months waging a war that has surprised even Americans. If you can make us blush in this regard, wow. Iran and its proxies are not responsible for how Israel conducts its wars. No one would blame Israelis for being full of rage and fear, and that’s exactly what this war looked like. Their response was absolutely devastating, and as always, the number of innocent Palestinian casualties is exponentially higher. Does Israel really not have to answer for this? Everyone accepts that in war there are unintended casualties, it’s another thing when it looks like you had no regard for innocent life.

Let’s also remember there’s 38 years of Israeli occupation of this very territory which ends a year or two before the election of Hamas. The Islamic fundamentalism people cite as the cause would need something to grab on to, no? It doesn’t make sense to me that religious fundamentalism can be the root cause when there is a land dispute/occupation present, following the same patterns they always do.

It's happening. The misinformation storm over the next week will be unprecedented and we should all remember the 72 hour rule for news out of Gaza.

Is the banning of Al Jazeera good or bad, and is banning a global news organization which may be critical of you during wartime justified here (or ever)?

Rhetorical questions…

I heard today that Hamas actually agreed to a different deal than Israel thought… it’s so dumb. Hamas is both the target of destruction and also at the negotiating table with real say. And people just go on…

The Times of Israel has headlines that suggest they disagree with the assertion that there is widespread famine in northern Gaza, but anyone who listened to their podcast from yesterday (or was it today?) heard a host & guest that clearly had trouble defending against it. And they even acknowledged that “due to pressure from the Americans” there is more aid coming in, making them “wonder if this could and should have been done much sooner.”

The ‘misinformation storm’ he says.

While netenyahu has said that’s exactly what they’re going to do and IDF are flattening the very last place refugees were told to go and burning them alive with phosphorus.
1.4 million refugees there.

So I’ve been blocked from posting footage of actual war crimes in here. Footage that’s in the news.

That’s curious.

The total number of deaths seemed to remain the same.

Erdogan mentioned that Turkey is treating 1000 wounded Hamas fighters. Maybe they transited before the Egypt border crossing was taken by Israel, but interesting claim to let slip.

Impeccable source. Not at all partial or uninvested.
