I would say Heartattack and Vine - Bone Machine because of the change on his music. Very profound. But its all very good.durdencommatyler wrote:What's the better run...?

Re: Tom Waits
He is a true artist. I have no doubt he will create until the day he dies. I'm just speculative on whether he sees an album cycle as something worth going through all the trouble to do in 2020 at age 70. He's not Bob Dylan!contamination wrote:This was posted on his website February 24th but later removed from the News section:verb_to_trust wrote:Kind of doubt we'll hear from him again honestly.

Listening to it now, I really like a lot of these songs, and I think it contains his very best spoken-word "story" track... but I think the main reason for its high ranking on my list is "Muriel," which may be my favorite song of the entire erastip wrote:I don't like Foreign Affairs at all. Re: Tom Waits
We've been leaving out One From the Heart in this discussion because it's a weird kind of "in-between" album, released just after the Asylum years but very much part of that era in terms of feel and overall aesthetic. It's also a soundtrack album which sets it apart somewhat, as the songs were written in service of the film, but it really does hold together as its own thing. Listening now, this is a gorgeous album, probably better than half the list above. Swordfishtrombones would be released a year later and change everythingtheplatypus wrote:It's been a long, long time since I hung out with those Asylum years albums.
From memory, my ranking is:
The Heart of Saturday Night
Foreign Affairs
Blue Valentine
Small Change
Heartattack and Vine
Closing Time
I really don't think I like Closing Time at all.
Anyway, I'll start listening through these tonight and see how my opinions have changed.

Re: Tom Waits
I love how "big-budget" it sounds. Wish he got to make a few more albums with this level of production
