They are very, very common and normal.
Yep.

Pretty much every major film does them. Reshoots are so normal in fact that the cost of doing them is usually built into the film's budget.

There are so many possible stories in the Star Wars universe. I have no problem with some of those stories being meant just for kids. Just as I don't mind some being meant just for adults. Just as I don't mind some of them bridging between adults and kids. Serve the story first. Tell the story you want to tell and let all that other stuff shake out in the wash.

In other words, can't it be both?
