True, but I tend to be a descriptivist when it comes to terms like this--these crimes were so different on so many levels that they're not even in the same ballpark.

And I ain't trying to get up in your grill, Stickman, it just sort of irks me as a reader when language is thrown around willy-nilly like those writers did (not you).

I would think it being a domestic incident puts it in a different category than this.

But I think when you're talking about the importance of gun control, the domestic incident is an even better example of why we need gun control. It seems like a far simpler situation, and a tragedy that could have been avoided or at least minimized by taking the gun out of the picture. It makes perfect sense to me to call that a mass shooting.

I'm very thankful to live in a country where gun ownership is heavily restricted but I think anyone framing this issue as being primarily about gun control is engaging in some seriously deep delusion.

One might even suggest these posts belong in the terrorism thread, but...
