There is a Pearl Jam Mystery Box trade group page on Facebook that has 1,800 members. Surely they didn't sell that many of those boxes though, right?

People might join just to trade things they already have, knowing there's going to be an influx of new items.

I guess Eddie was given an identical guitar from Tom Petty. This was not the gifted guitar.

Yeah, that looks like an off-the-shelf new Tele; something they probably bought just for this.

Was there ever a time when RM would have, in and of itself, been a viable trading forum for something like the Mystery Boxes? I feel like the answer is yes.

Not really. When the Trading Forum was really humming, it was about trading DVD-Rs and CD-Rs. While merch was sold, merch was rarely traded.
