I like him a lot. But he would never make my list of favorite actors. He does his thing, does it well enough and is always serviceable. Every once in a while he really shines (like True Detective).

Loved him on Cheers and I really like him in Wag the Dog, too.

For the record, I'm judging his performances apart from the overall movies. I don't like Natural Born Killers at all; I find it to be a very unpleasant and needlessly "loud" movie, but I think he's fantastic in his role. Larry Flynt is also not a great movie, but I thought he was excellent.

Oh that's right! I remember him now. I Googled some images. Yeah, he's easily the most forgettable part of an all around amazing film. I love the fuck out of that movie.
