Boy howdy, get a guy away from the Browns and watch him shine.

Any opinions on which team(s) is/are/will be the best in the NFC? The top 5 seem to be separating themselves, but there doesn’t seem to be a clear top team.

San Francisco (8-1) Next three: vs.ARI, vs.GB, @BAL
Green Bay (8-2) Next three: @SF, @NYG, vs.WAS
Seattle (8-2) Next three: @PHI, vs.MIN, @LAR
New Orleans (7-2) Next three: @TB, vs.CAR, @ATL
Minnesota (7-3) Next three: vs.DEN, @SEA, vs.DET

New Orleans always gives hope but folds. That said, no one remaining in their schedule strikes fear in the hearts of man. Then again, look what ATL did to them this past weekend.

Green Bay has insufficient defense, but if they can survive the SF game they have a cakewalk remaining.

I believe there was a quote from someone earlier this season on the Seattle defense chuckling after they eked out a victory about how they had won but not even played close to their potential yet. i think we got a showing of that defense's potential last night. I want to say Seattle, because defensive line play is so key down the stretch, and they have the defense - and the QB has the experience - but they are at a want for playmakers. That said, lack of an explosive playmaker hasn't really stopped them before. But they play real teams for the rest of the year and will need more offensive points.

I'd like to give MN credit but Cousins always sucks in games that matter a lot. He'll keep you on a string by getting all streaky right when you count him out. Then when you give him credit again, he is there to completely suck ass and do amazingly stupid things at important times. We are nearing the suck ass phase of the Cousins cycle again - but the difference this time might be that he has Cook to rely on and, perhaps more importantly, a coaching staff that appears to know that they should run the offense through Cook and not put the game in Cousins hands. If Cook stays healthy, then MN is a contender, despite what bloopers Cousins has left up his sleeve.

San Fran is a natural choice on paper, although Jimmy G has never made it real far in the back end of the season. He is still a veteran at this point though, and far from docile. With their defense, and Kyle Shanahan's state-of-the-art playcalling, they should be the top choice, despite what happened last night. There were some bad luck plays for SF, but i think the overall takeaway is they underestimated Seattle's D-line and should have adjusted their protections accordingly. That said, GB and BAL on the schedule is not gonna be easy.

Gonna give the edge to San Fran. They have a leg up already with only 1 loss. I think they beat ARI and GB and so if the lose to BAL they still prob take it. But I think Shanny knows a thing or two about how to defend an RPO offense. I also think Kyle Shanahan is on a mission in general this year and despite what Jimmy G may or may not have left in the tank, Shanny could probably draw up a game plan and win with Rex Grossman at this point if he needed to.

Thanks for the thoughtful response ‘UP. I generally agree with most of your positions, particularly on the Vikings. You really have a raging clue for Kyle Shannahan! Just an FYI, which I’m sure you are aware of, but there are several more games left to the season beyond the “next three” listed above. Your comments in a couple spots made me question.

Anyway, so if you were picking today you’d have San Francisco as the one seed vs. MN in the NFC championship game? Or do you lean Seattle?

I think the Vikes have to make it in as a WC, which means they prob play SF if they win

so SF v. SEA in a throwback classic NFC Championship game (to the Kaep era)

but who the F knows

which reminds me, Kaep having a workout for all 32 NFL teams.........

Obviously I did that because I’m a Vikings fan. But I do think every one of those is plausible. It would be crazy.
