I mean, you can post all of this stuff that you want, but it's not going to make me think that lawmakers should take action on this stuff. Families need to make these decisions for themselves with help from doctors who know the most about this, admittedly, marginal field of medicine. Are there bad doctors and bad parents and stupid teens? Of course there are, but that doesn't mean we should hand the decision over to bad and stupid lawmakers.

I'm sure doctors and families and kids will make wrong decisions and those decisions will carry difficult consequences, but they're the people best equipped to do the research and decide. A lawmaker, who prior to the election was a lawyer or a landlord or a professor or whatever, is probably the worst person I can think of to make this decision for a family, especially one who is happy to tell people how they believe there are only two genders, and they're not gonna call some kid "they."

Maybe not lawmakers but perhaps licensing boards. Is there any scenario where a psychiatrist could perform an icepick lobotomy today without some significant fallout?

There are some interventions that should almost never be done on kids.

When the AAP comes out against gender affirming care, I'll back down.

this kind of fragile projection is what happens when cis people try to imagine what it would be like for them to want to transition (which they could never do, as they're not trans); a cis person would have to force themself through transition with some sick desire to have their body / identity / dress sense / name / social circle ripped apart from within them and ripped out from under them, because that's their only framwork - imagination; and they imagine transness and trans healthcare as a sick fetish that people willingly sentence themself to a life of, instead of what it is, lifesaving healthcare for people suffering a life (and potential death) without it

for me it was transition or kill myself, that was my choice; we trans people keep saying this, and yet the "debate" rages on between people who will never have to live 5 minutes in our shoes, they just like to feel topically powerful

by the way, just as an aside: minors are not getting any surgeries, it's just not happening; a person needs to be over 18 to get that, at least in the UK; a trans person under 18 can transition socially -- they can, with support, choose their name, dress sense, hobbies, social circle etc. -- but the only "medical" input potentially offered them is hormone blockers, which are fully reversible and also given to cis kids for all sorts of other reasons; someone on hormone blockers can try blocking their secondary sex characteristics until they're old enough to pursue further transition steps (potentially saving their life) or they can decide actually, no, they've in fact realised they're not trans, come off the blockers, get back to life exactly as they knew it before

there is NOBODY being forcefully "castrated"

I can tolerate people debating important topics; what I can't tolerate is people scaremongering

Presumably you were a competent adult when you made your choice, we aren't discussing adult medical care.

"Eunuch" is getting pushed as a new gender identity, so there's that as well.

no, we aren't; I have covered so-called "child" trans healthcare in my post, which you would know if you'd read it to the end

there are all sorts of different words that people use to describe their gender that makes sense to them; that said, who is pushing *you* to use "eunuch" for yourself? the answer is probably no one, isn't it brother

I knew I was trans when I was six years old, though didn't have the language, peer support *or* the healthcare resources to do anything about it

if I had, I most certainly would have; I spent 30 years of my life feeling out of my body and lacking an identity I was comfortable growing into
