(though that’s not true - like Stone, I recognize Binaurall is the true bottom.

I wonder where he ranks Lightning Bolt. Surely above No Code, at least.
Someone make a poll.

Which of Stip’s least favorite Pearl Jam albums do you prefer?

No Code
Binaural

i thought eddie vedder was the primary song writer of the album?
nope, they all worked in the songs and brought ideas
maybe i'm remembering this wrong, but i thought by this point in their career it was ed's band and he was doing most of the writing. the title of the next album indicated he stepped back from writing or yielded to the rest of the band.

Vedder wrote all lyrics aside from Mankind and 5.75 of the music on No Code, Yield lyrically has Jeff and Stone with two songs each and Vedder only listed twice for the music composition.

this is speculative but I think the ‘this is ed’s band’ idea from this period reflects more that he had the final say so as to which songs got completed/became pearl jam songs more than him writing everything

it sounds like 'yield' was the de-edification and 'no code' was EV trying to get away from what made him a huge rock star. i'm sure him and jack irons were getting high and making music celebrating he was in the band.

he wrote most of the songs on 'vitalogy' too.

edit: maybe not most, but by 'vitalogy' it wasn't just stone writing guitar parts and ed writing lyrics like ten and most of vs. vitalogy was ed taking over, no code was ed's band. or something to that effect lol

was hanging up some of my giant polariod inserts from the Vinyl No Code album ... always loved them, nice colors too

i realized the banana pic (a favorite) is present tense, and unlike the others, does not have lyrics or anything on the back

just blank black on the back

lesson in there?

i always loved when PJ was subtle-y artistic like that

so much thought and care went into those earlier albums

This feels like the right moment to point out that while No Code does have a collection of polaroid photos that vaguely make a triangle symbol if you squint real hard, the graphic art that Don Pendleton created for Lightning Bolt won a grammy.

Folks this is a man who has a framed picture of the Avocado album cover hanging in his house. Do not look to him for opinions on artwork, album or otherwise
