I just cast my vote (five stars) and I was glad to see that’s the consensus.

HWIC or Leatherman in place of red dot.

Yield's a perfect album, I wouldn't change a thing.
Sure, one could remove Red Dot and it wouldn't disembowel the record, but its presence shows a willingness to explore the margins of whatever they'd come to think of as Pearl Jam, while having some fun at the same time.
I enjoy when bands throw in quick snippets like this between songs, it adds a unique character to an album, like a glimpse of someone backstage moving the set around between acts of a play.
It might ruin the illusion for some, but for others its a part of the whole experience.
Red Dot's a palate cleanser from Evolution with its jagged riff and shredded vocals, a chance to catch one's breath before hopping aboard the smoother going but equally high energy of MFC.

Red Dot is really fun, as is Hummus. I think they still had some experimental urges to get out, in the wake of Vitalogy and No Code. I actually wish they did more of that on their later records, but oddly enough, I’ve never been a big fan of Arc. Experimental instrumental toss-offs on the next record (God willing) might be fun.

Yield is perfect the way it is.
If I were to mess with it, I'd have Red Dot and Hummus swap places.

It looks like the official title of what we've been calling "Red Dot" is actually "Red Bar", or at least that's how it's titled on Spotify

That’s what Jeff called it in an interview

Is it completely stupid that knowing that makes me like the song even more somehow?
