I'm trying to keep expectations tempered; it doesn't feel like it due in part to the gaps between albums, but they are very far into their career; REM was on the verge of wrapping up at the point where PJ is now. A lot of the things I'm hearing (weird titles, synth-y vibe) give me more pause now than they may have when PJ was at their most consistent creative high. But I'm also definitely excited to hear what it is, and what to make of it.

this definitely still has the possibility (likelihood?) of being not so hot. like i said before could easily be a swing and a miss, especially so far into their career. we're all just holding onto the hope that they made a sea change and genuinely went for something more artistic.

who knows? that's the fun of it.

I don’t get why they just don’t drop it. It’s kind of outdated this build up.

on the one hand they should just throw it out there. on the other, i get why they think they should build it up seeing as it's been almost 7 years. throw some chum in the water and watch assholes like me salivate.

did River Cross appear on setlists with that title though? Wasn't it called something else?

no official title but i think people called it Share The Light. River Cross is the way cooler title.

Let's guess the running order, because what else am i gonna do until wednesday?

1. Buckle Up (this has to be the opener, right?)

2. Quick Escape (classic 1-2 punch of fast and hard-hitting)

3. Dance of the Clairvoyants (perfect spot for a mid-tempi single)

4. Superblood Wolf Moon (similar to In My Tree, Why Go, and Severed Hand, put the heavy psychedelic song here)

5. Alright (the five spot is a good place for another light number)

6. Retrograde (sounds like a song that would close out the first half of the album)

7. Seven O'Clock (because seven, right? And I wonder if this is a Matt song, in 7/8 time?)

8. Who Ever Said (now I'm just guessing)

9. Comes Then Goes (still guessing)

10. Take The Long Way (still guessing)

11. River Cross (assuming it's the organ song, that'd make for a good pre-closer)

12. Never Destination (sounds like an album closer to me)

I posted it here him playing it live here in Dublin and hoping and praying it would make the cut.

It’s too good to let go.

I just hope it’s treated carefully.

Ed comes up with wonderful songs that the band often fuck up out of all shape.
