I learned this morning that a friend of mine from high school was found dead of COVID in his apartment last week. His parents were there to tell him that his brother had passed away at the hospital earlier that day.

I can't imagine what that must have been like for them.

Yeah, I agree it's not looking great on that front. I assume what you are saying there with the under-18s is that there is some evidence that we might be close now with ~40% of adults fully vaxxed and with another 25% likely having had it at some point of which a significant portion is kids.


The other piece of this which I haven't seen discussed much is that some data suggests the vaccinations last only 6 months, which means we may need to do this all over again in the fall.

I actually suspect the naturally immunity percentage is higher, considering 30 million cases have been documented, then probably triple that to account for asymptomatic or mild cases, as well as undocumented ones. So more so, the opportunity to vax a good portion of that 22% under 17, once approved. Then continue to piece together small percentages among the other age groups through vaccine incentives, encouragement, or whatever. Which yeah, long shot.

A bit of optimism:

On May 2, Los Angeles County reported zero COVID-19-related deaths, signifying the aggressive steps by public health officials to halt the spread of the disease appear to be working. Months earlier, LA County was one of the domestic epicenters of the virus. In January, it was estimated as many as 1 in 3 residents there could have been infected with the virus since the start of the pandemic.

As of this last weekend, hospitalizations are down 16% from 2 weeks earlier, according to local health officials. In LA County, 46.8% of residents have gotten at least 1 vaccine dose, and 31.5% are fully vaccinated, according to the LA Times.

We really are going to separate into vax/no vax tribes, aren’t we?
Going to make some interesting politics in the coming weeks. I can already hear the cries of discrimination and personal freedom.

i pulled up to the gym this morning to see 3 police cars there at 440am

i didnt need to guess what they were there for. i had mentioned elsewhere there is a guy who refuses to wear a mask and has berated one of the employees for asking him to do so (i only know this cause he bragged about it talking to someone else next to me). turns out the employee asked him to wear his mask and he told her to leave him alone and get out. she asked him again and i guess he got a little threatening with her. well she is the GM of the place and he asked for the managers card and she gave him her card. he then asked for her superiors email address as he feels he is being harrassed.

when i got there the 3 cops were talking to him and he said, i always wear my mask. the one cop said, i literally watched you walk around for about 5 minutes with no mask. No you didnt was his reply

hopefully his membership is revoked. not for the mask but because he does not wipe down the equipment when he is done. EVER
